Puppy should be trained at an early age. As they become older their form the routines which are quite difficult to get out of. Doors are very intelligent animals and pickup behaviors and reactions as their natural instincts. Once they know what is to be expected out of them in certain situation, they will follow it. Training a puppy needs a lot of patience and persistence. You might have to repeat certain things again and again before your dog picks up the reaction and relate to things.
You should know about the behavior in general, dogs relate things very easily. So if they relate an action to a pleasant outcome like some kind of a treat or play, they will naturally follow it. And if they relate an action to an unpleasant outcome, they will tend to avoid it. Once they get into a routine it will develop as a habit which in other terms is what dog training is.
You can start training your puppy yourself, this will not only increase the bonding between you and your dog but you will also start knowing each other in a better way.
